Creating Client Types

Before we start adding clients to your system, we want to add and configure the client types. Found in the Sales Tab, a client type is a definition, or template, for a client in your system. Essentially it is a set of settings that you can apply to different clients. You can have as many client types as you wish; each client type defines standard ordering options, prices, packages, and other settings for a group of clients. Some client type settings can be changed, or overridden, for individual clients, but it's still a good idea to define client types to group your clients as much as possible. Client type settings can be cloned, unlike client settings.

A good rule of thumb is to use these types when you have similar types of customers who may order and pay for the same types of services. The services or searches provided can only be added using client types. This is

One default client type (Default_Screening) is provided for you at the beginning. You can customize this type and/or create other types. In addition, you can copy a type and then customize it so you don't have to start from scratch each time.

To create or manage client types, just navigate to Sales > Client Types.

Creating a new client type

To create a new client type, just click Create a new client type from the top of the Client Types page. You have two options. By default, the system will suggest that you choose an existing client type to copy; this is usually the best scenario, as new client types will often be similar to existing client types, and you'll have less work to do in customizing prices and such. However, if you wish to create a brand-new type from scratch, just click Create a new client type from scratch.

Remember not to put spaces in your client type name. For example, you cannot use Retail Screening as a client type, but you could use Retail_Screening or RetailScreening without a problem.

Also, you cannot rename a client type once you create it. However, you can delete a client type as long as no clients are assigned to it, so you could always create a copy with a new name, move clients onto the new type, then delete the old type.

Note: Search Options and Ordering Box are two options that are only configured in the client type and cannot be changed on an individual client level.

Options under Client types:

Configuring a client type

Once you have created your client type, you are free to configure any of the above options listed. You always want to start with the search options and ordering box since both of these options are only available in the client type.

Deleting a client type

You can delete a Client Type only if there are no clients associated with that Client Type. All clients associated with that Client Type must be changed to another Client Type. Once this is done a link will appear under Sales -> Client Types -> in the Client Type desired to be deleted.

Next Steps

You are ready to add clients to your system! Please go proceed to Enabling Search Types to be Ordered.
