deverus provides 4 options for providers of Instant Criminal data: Data Divers, Innovative Data Solutions, Cleara and Themis.
You can use these providers to provide multi-jurisdiction (nationwide) instant criminal searches, nationwide sex offender searches, and state-specific criminal and sex offender searches.
By configuring your researcher network properly, you can choose which provider is connected to which type of searches, as well as which types of searches you wish to offer.
In addition, you can use these three providers to set up a SuperSearch that uses all three providers simultaneously to provide thorough nationwide criminal data.
Choosing your providers
In order to decide which provider you want to use for state-specific and national searches, deverus provides several reports from three of the vendors that give data on which states and counties they cover, and in some cases statistics on the numbers of records in each area. Use the links below to access recently-updated reports from each vendor.
Setting up your researcher networks
There are two different searches you can provide (besides the SuperSearch, described separately) that take advantage of the instant providers. You may have changed the names of these searches, but their original names are Instant Criminal and Next Day Criminal.
For all three setups, navigate to Researchers > Configure Researcher Network.
Instant Criminal setup
This search is intended to allow both single-state and nationwide instant criminal searches. You can choose whether to offer just nationwide criminal searches using this search, or whether you also want to offer single-state criminal searches.
To set up the search, click the GO button next to the Instant Criminal Network (or whatever you have named the search) on the Configure Researcher Network page.
Next, find the provider you wish to use for nationwide criminal searches, and click the Multi-Jurisdiction link for that provider. Finally, you can rename the link to whatever you like (such as Nationwide), and check the Active box at the bottom. The Description box is only used for internal purposes. Finally, save your changes by clicking Save Changes.
Next, you can activate or de-activate any states you wish for any providers you wish, by clicking the appropriate state link for the provider in question. To remove a state from the list of available states in the ordering process, just uncheck the Active setting for any states you don't want. This allows you to pick the best provider for each state, based on the documents linked above.
Please note that, in some cases, you may not want to offer state-specific searches at all, but rather only provide a nationwide search. Or you may want to offer state-specific searches through the Next Day Criminal search, as described below so that you have one search type for nationwide searches and a second for state-specific searches. This simplifies the ordering process, but only if you aren't already using the Next Day search for non-instant, researcher-based searches as described below.
You can also enable the nationwide sex offender option to complement the nationwide criminal option. Each one provides a different set of national data. However, state-specific searches include both criminal and sex offender data.
Also, make sure you enter the correct pricing for the provider you choose, as described in the pricing section above.
