The National Student Clearinghouse API integration through deverus processes Education Verifications using a JSON based API. The requests made through this integration are near-instant and process every 5-10 minutes.

Important Note: The default researcher in the Education Verification researcher network cannot be set to NSC IM API. There must be a different default researcher set as the default for assignment of verifications not supported by NSC.

There is a charge per search to use the integration. Please put in a support ticket to deverus support to get more information. Additionally, individual school fees that may be applied (these fees will differ per school, some schools do not charge a fee at all ). These fees can be found on the NSCH website linked here: https://studentclearinghouse.org/colleges/degreeverify/degreeverify-schools/

A new type ahead will populate the NSC database list of schools. If the school is listed, the type ahead feature will automatically route the search to the NSC database.

The degree type must be selected and is used to filter out things that the NSC cannot verify.

An example of this is a subject attended 2 schools, a community college, and an accredited university. At the community college, they received a GED. At the university, they received a bachelors.

The GED cannot be verified through the NSC and so it is assigned to the default researcher for the search type.

Below is a list of the degree types that are not supported by NSC:

When the school is selected from the list, this action triggers the NSC integration. The process will allow the applicant/user to choose whether or not the Education Verification is for an enrollment verification or graduation verification.

*NOTE* If 'Enrollment Verification' is chosen, the researcher will not default to NSC. Enrollment verifications can be submit to NSC using the Mass Resubmit and NSC lookup tool. 'Graduation Verifications will default to NSC when the degree type is supported

NSC returns any information contained in the database. In the event that the information is not in their database, NSC will manually contact the school to verify degree and enrollment history.

When this occurs, the search change status to "Delay," and a client note will be added to the search stating "Submitted to School for Research."

This portion of the process usually takes around 48 hours, according to NSC. The note will only be displayed on the search. However, if you find that a search pending for 48+ hours has no notes or activity showing it reached NSC, it is recommended the search be resubmitted to NSC.

Once NSC has verified the information, the results will be returned through the integration, completing the search.

The school fee is only applied when the search completes if the information is verified.

The school fee is not applied if the information was not verified.

*NOTE* The subject either SSN OR DOB or both must be on the report for NSC to process. The search will be routed to the default researcher if SSN or DOB is not provided.

Education Verifications can be resubmit to NSC from other researchers using the 'Mass Resubmit' Function. Using the search level 'resubmit' button will result in error "School ID is required."

To use the 'Mass Resubmit' function, navigate to your search queue using report finder and pull any searches that need to be resubmitted.

Then click Mass Resubmit:

*NOTE* If NSC returns an "unable to verify" status, for any reason, the system will automatically resubmit the search to the default researcher and will remain in "delay" status.

SwiftHire Mobile will automatically populate the NSC school drop down after the first 3 letters in a school are inputted. If a school is entered that is not on the list, the applicant will receive a "create" option for that school and the order will not route to NSC.

If a submission to NSC results in an error, the corresponding error code will show as a Researcher Note on the search. Below are some of the common error codes and their meaning.

CD = Confirmed Degree

CA = Confirmed with Dates of Attendance

*NOTE* Searches previously submitted to NSC that have been pending for an extended period of time should not be resubmitted back to NSC. This can result in a system issue where the fee repeatedly attempts to apply to the search (with numerous notes on the search card). NSC searches more than 30 days old should be cancelled and reordered.
